You deserve to feel seen—and supported
If you’ve ever felt like therapy wasn’t built for someone like you, you’re not alone. Maybe you’ve sat across from someone who didn’t understand the complexity of your identity—or made assumptions about how you move through the world.
My name is Liz Nordenholt, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) in Burbank, CA and I work with queer, trans, neurodiverse, and non-monogamous folks who are looking for a place to unpack, process, and just be, without having to explain every detail of who they are.
Whether you’re navigating identity, recovering from religious trauma, or simply trying to make sense of life’s overwhelm, therapy can be a space that finally feels like it fits.
Why Work With Me
It’s not always easy to show up fully, especially when parts of your identity have been overlooked or misunderstood. As a queer, polyamorous woman raised within evangelical Christianity, I understand how important it is to feel truly seen.
Many of my clients come to me because they’re tired of having to explain the basics. I work with folks navigating queerness, neurodivergence, non-monogamy, kink, and religious trauma—and I meet them with curiosity, not assumptions.
Therapy with me is collaborative and individualized. I’m here to support you in reconnecting with your own strength and story.
My Approach to Therapy
Healing happens in relationships, especially the kind where you don’t have to filter who you are. I offer a warm, collaborative space where you can show up fully, whether you’re feeling clear, confused, messy, or somewhere in between.
My approach is client-led and flexible. We’ll go at your pace, whether that means deep conversations, somatic practices, grounding techniques, or working with different parts of yourself through Internal Family Systems. I draw from narrative therapy, Brainspotting, somatic work, trauma-focused CBT, and elements of ACT to support growth, self-understanding, and resilience.
If past therapy left you feeling unseen or misunderstood, you’re not alone. We’ll create something different—affirming, adaptive, and rooted in your truth.
Common Struggles I Help With
You might be feeling burned out, disconnected, or unsure of who you are in the spaces you move through.
Whether you're processing something big or just feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, therapy can be a place to get curious, reflect, and create new ways of moving forward.
Many of my clients are navigating:
Religious trauma, especially from high-demand spiritual communities and purity culture
Late-diagnosed neurodivergence and the chronic overwhelm that can come with it
Challenges related to non-monogamy or polyamorous relationships
Feeling unseen or misunderstood in traditional therapeutic or medical settings
Identity exploration around queerness, transness, or asexuality
Internalized shame, people-pleasing, or difficulty setting boundaries
Navigating kink/BDSM dynamics within a supportive, nonjudgmental space

Get to Know Me Outside Therapy
Before I became a therapist, I was a working artist in Los Angeles, immersed in the world of theatre. Creativity continues to be a huge part of my life—it shows up in how I think, how I connect, and how I hold space.
Outside of sessions, you’ll find me making things with my hands: sewing, crafting, building props, or designing costumes. I’m also a big fan of collaborative storytelling through roleplaying games, and I’m a proud cat mom to two mischievous little weirdos, Keebler and Khoshehk.
Bringing joy, playfulness, and imagination into life—and into therapy—is something I value deeply.
