Finding Your Way Back to Yourself

You don’t need to have it all figured out to start feeling better. If you’re feeling lost, disconnected, or unsure of your next step, therapy can help you find your footing again.

I'm Miriam Anthony, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) in California offering virtual therapy through Foothills Psychotherapy. I work with young adults and couples who are navigating big life transitions, relationship challenges, or unresolved trauma.

My goal is to help you reconnect with your own inner compass and move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and self-trust.

Why Work With Me

I work with people who feel ready for change—even if they’re unsure where to start. Many of my clients are exploring their identity, facing relationship challenges, or feeling overwhelmed by transition.

I became a therapist because I care deeply about the human experience. Clients often tell me they feel truly heard in our work together. I bring presence, curiosity, and a real respect for your story—and if you're part of the maritime world, I bring personal insight that makes therapy more grounded and relevant.

My Approach to Therapy

My approach is collaborative, adaptable, and always centered on your goals. We start each session with a check-in, then follow what feels most relevant to you that day—working at a pace that feels right for you.

I use a range of approaches, including Brainspotting, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and narrative therapy. For couples, I incorporate Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and tools from the Gottman Method to support healthy communication and deeper connection.

Addressing Your Concerns

Starting therapy can feel like a big step—especially if you’re not sure what to expect. You might be struggling with trauma that’s hard to name, feeling stuck in your relationship, overwhelmed by a major life transition, or questioning who you are and where you’re going. It’s normal to feel hesitant, but you don’t have to navigate it alone.

I’m here to help you slow down, get clear on what matters most, and begin building a life that feels more aligned. Confidentiality, safety, and trust are at the heart of my work. I won’t push or prescribe; instead, I offer steady support, honest reflection, and deep respect for your process.

I support clients working through challenges such as:

  • Unresolved trauma

  • Identity exploration

  • Relationship conflicts

  • Major life transitions

  • Emotional overwhelm

  • Difficulty making decisions

Get to Know Me Outside of Therapy

While therapy is my passion, life outside the therapy room matters just as much. I’ve spent over 15 years as a mariner, which means I understand long journeys—both at sea and within ourselves. These days, I find joy in hiking with my dog, soaking up a beach day, and getting lost in live music or offbeat art shows.

I’m also queer- and kink-affirming, body positive, and committed to creating a space where your full self is not just welcome, but celebrated. The things that make us different? I believe they’re worth honoring.

Let’s Work Together

If you’re ready to feel more grounded, connected, and confident in your next steps, I’d love to support you. I offer virtual therapy for individuals and couples across California. Reach out anytime to see if we’re a good fit.
