She/Her | Burbank, CA | In-Person and Virtual Therapy
Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW) for teens and young adults navigating grief, loss, and sexual trauma
Your teens and twenties bring several transitions which can be deeply confusing, destabilizing, and lonely. Maybe you’re experiencing significant grief or loss for the first time, or you’re uncertain about who you are and have more questions than answers. You may be at a place where you realize you’re becoming a new version of yourself, but don’t quite know where you belong.
My name is Olivia Calvi, an Associate Clinical Social Worker in Burbank, CA and I work with teens and young adults who identify as LGBTQ+, have experienced the grief that comes from losing an impactful relationship or loved one, and/or are survivors of sexual trauma. I have navigated my own share of grief and loss and know how important it is to have the tools, space, and community that allow you to show up just as you are so that you can move toward healing.
Whether you’re navigating your identity, processing grief, or trying to reclaim parts of yourself that were thrown into survival mode, therapy can be a supportive space where you can find out who you are and how to build the life you want to be living, without having to figure it out alone.
Why Work With Me
I was raised with the core belief that every person has inherent value, but I was also taught early on that the world doesn’t treat everyone the same. I know what it’s like to not know who you are or not feel like you fully belong.
Throughout my teens and twenties, I came out as queer, navigated the harm that can come with being a woman in our world, grieved the passing of many loved ones, and learned what it’s like to have a parent diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. Through all the messy transitions and heartbreaking moments, I found my calling in helping others learn to shift their relationship with their own grief and move toward healing.
My goal in our sessions is to center you. We move at your pace, working together to get you the tools you need to feel empowered through the most important relationship you have—your relationship with yourself.
My Approach to Therapy
Grief, trauma, and adversity are experts at teaching our bodies and minds that it’s not safe to show up in the world as who we really are. I believe healing happens when you have a space to show up authentically, without pretending or masking, so that you can work toward learning how to trust others again. And often that means first relearning how to trust yourself.
In our sessions, I create space for you to show up as the version of yourself that exists in that moment—raw, authentic, whoever you need to be. We’ll draw upon ACT, CBT, DBT/mindfulness skills, and somatic work. These tools can help you understand and work with your trauma so that you can start to move past your body’s survival mechanisms and live your life how you choose.
We’ll expand that work so that you have agency in how you navigate your relationships and the world around you, so that you carry that with you into the next stage of your life.
Common Struggles I Help With
I often work with teens and young adults who have never been to therapy and don’t know what to expect, or don’t know if it will even be helpful. Whether this is your first time in therapy, or you’ve been in similar spaces before, I’ll meet you where you’re at and work with you to create an experience that feels comfortable for you.
Many of my clients are navigating:
Identity exploration around being in the LGBTQ+ community, and everything that comes with “coming out”
Conversations around sexual intimacy and consent, unhealthy relationship dynamics, and how to establish and hold boundaries with peers
Grief from the death/dying a loved one
Grief from the loss of a romantic relationship or close friendship
Life as a survivor of sexual trauma
Feeling uncertain of how to trust themselves or the people around them because of past trauma
Feeling lost, alone, or lacking the community and support that would give them a sense of belonging
Get to Know Me Outside Therapy
I am most passionate about the intersection of mental and physical health. In addition to being a social worker, I am a Certified Personal Trainer and love using movement as a tool for healing. My relationship to movement was foundational to my own healing journey and in building a positive relationship with myself. It has become and remains my favorite form of self-expression.
Whether hiking, rock climbing, weightlifting, or running, I try to be outside—in the mountains, any natural body of water, or a botanic garden—as much as possible. I’ve also found a great source of community in doing activities I love with people who also love them.
I am also a spiritual person. I grew up Unitarian Universalist and love using tarot cards as a tool for building my own intuition and connection with others. I have an extensive cactus and succulent collection, love traveling and learning more about other cultures, and find the most comfort in my two ridiculously sweet (and just ridiculous) cats, River and Ocean.
Let’s Work Together
If you are ready to take the next step forward, I’d love to hear from you. You can reach out to schedule a consultation or ask any questions. Whether it’s from me or someone I can connect you to, my goal is to get you the support you’re seeking so you can finally feel less alone.
